I’ma let you finish, but THE AVENGERS is the greatest superhero movie of all time. OF ALL TIME.
I have been looking forward to this movie for about a year. I love superheroes. I love their movies. I love their costumes. I love their powers. I love their fights. The Avengers movie gave me all of that and SO MUCH MORE. It was even better than I’ve dreaming that it would be. It had amazing 3D effects, tons of laugh-out-loud moments, and great chemistry between all the heroes. If you’re also a fan of the superhero genre and enjoyed the other individual heros’ movies, you will LOVE this movie.
If you haven’t seen Thor, Captain America, The Hulk or any Iron Man movies yet (what is wrong with you?) they do a little back story on them so you know what’s going on, but I highly suggest you catch up before seeing The Avengers, because you’ll get so much more out of it.
Robert Downey Jr. (Sherlock Holmes) aka Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, once again does a fantastic job of being his snarky, cynical mean but funny self. Much of the humor in the movie (and there’s a lot of it!) comes from him.
Newcomers Scarlett Johansson (We Bought a Zoo) aka Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow and Jeremy Renner (Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol) aka Clint Baron aka Hawkeye provide a more human side to the heroes (as in, they’re human like Stark). They have their own little drama going on, but are a good fit for the film.
Chris Hemsworth (Cabin in the Woods) aka Thor Odinson reprises his role as a Greek god very well, wielding his Hammer of Justice and what not.
Chris Evans (What’s Your Number? and Fantastic Four) aka Steve Rogers aka Captain America is still trying to acclimate himself to modern day, so it seems he’s right where his movie left off with the Avengers teaser.
Mark Ruffalo (Date Night and Shutter Island) is Dr. Bruce Banner aka The Hulk. While it was his first time playing Hulk (Eric Bana and Edward Norton starred in the latest remakes from 2003 and 2008, respectively), he also fits in nicely with this motley crew.
And then there’s our villain, Tom Hiddleston (War Horse) aka Loki Odinson, brother of the Mighty Thor. While he was pretty evil in the Thor movie, now he’s an all-out dictator set on destroying the Earth, and any connection to his brother Thor as well. He’s completely rebelling from everything he’s ever known, with nothing but the Avengers to stop him.
S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg, The New Adventures of Old Christine) and Operative Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders, How I Met Your Mother) are supporting characters.
THE AVENGERS is one of the best movies I’ve seen this year, superheroes or not. It was absolutely hilarious, full of butt-kicking action and awesome moments. While I saw it for free already, I plan on seeing it again when it comes out!
THE AVENGERS is in theatres May 4, 2012. (May the Fourth be with you!)
So what did I think?
It’s worth the IMAX price. Twice! GO SEE IT.
What do you think?
Will you assemble to see them on the big screen? Comment when you do!
