This is a scary movie, but not how you think it is. It’s a little supernatural horror, a little old-fashioned home invader psycho killer, and a little “WTF??”
It’s 3 parts very heavy breathing, 2 parts running, 1 part silent screaming facial expressions, and 1 part boobage.
When we do get a little dialogue, it sounds stilted and forced. The running scenes are dizzying, with the camera blurring in and out of focus and jogging up and down. If you get motion sick when movies do that, look away in the running parts.
What we do get in this movie is a healthy-looking Olsen. That almost sounds like an oxymoron, but younger sis Elizabeth is back in her second film (martha marcy may marlene was her breakout in 2011).
The story is inspired by true events and the trailer makes it out to be a “real-time re-telling” of the story.
It’s a remake of the Uruguayan “La Casa Muda.”
It’s weird.
There’s not much else to say about it, except that at 85 minutes long, you’re not going to get much movie time for your money.
SILENT HOUSE is in theaters March 9, 2012.
It’s rated R for disturbing violent content and terror, it is 1 hour and 25 minutes long.
So what do I think?
Skip it. Or if you’re really into horror, rent it later.
