Forget Haywire. Forget Contraband. SAFE HOUSE is a serious action thriller.
Maybe it’s because this one has Denzel in it, but this movie is just better. There are some shaky camera scenes to make it look “realistic,” but it’s not too bad. Try to sit near the back if you get motion sick from that. Other than that, it’s a great movie.
Some parts you may see coming, others give an unexpected twist. The whole movie is a thrill ride that will keep you gripped to your seat, so make you use the bathroom before it starts!
Ryan Reynolds is really good in this movie. While he usually plays his usual “Van Wilder” funny-cool guy character, he is a serious CIA agent/ safe house keeper Matthew Weston. This role does not leave him much opportunity to be funny, which is not a bad thing. I see more serious roles in his future.
And then there’s Denzel. Denzel, Denzel, Denzel. A classical actor with an energetic presence, he has perfect composure throughout the whole film, even though people are trying to kill him the whole time, and all kinds of people are killed around him. He would be perfect to play a sociopath.
He is Tobin Frost, the legendary CIA intelligence officer. He is wanted for treason and espionage in like, every country for trading intelligence secrets and military codes. He has eluded capture by everyone for a decade.
He is also a BAMF.

I wouldn't be a back seat driver with this guy.
After he surfaces in Cape Town, South Africa after 10 years, Weston is charged with getting Frost to another safe house after his is breached. What comes next is a rush of events that will have your heart pumping and your mind intrigued.
(This is not a remake of 1998’s Safe House.)
SAFE HOUSE is in theaters Feb. 10, 2012.
It is 1 hour and 55 minutes long (115 mins) and is rated R for strong violence throughout and some language.
